Although Down the Street operated for just 10 years, from 1989 to 1999, it fast became a popular spot, and one still talked about all these years later. Notably, it survived as Asbury Park continued to decline. In 1999, Paradise opened nearby in the old Empress Motel, and the fate of Down the Street was sealed. The owner closed the venue and relocated to Ft Lauderdale.
